Job Summary

The Tooling Engineer works closely with customers ID, PD, and internal engineering teams on product development from concept to mass production. Work with internal cross-functional teams to meet product specification and support projects from engineering builds to mass production. Focusing on facilitating technical communication between engineering groups and non-technical team members, the tooling engineer will use his/her technical expertise to help identify solutions for tooling and fixture issues during the whole project development cycles.
The Tooling Engineer will work on all tooling related projects.

  • Team up with internal cross-functional teams (product design engineers, manufacturing Engineers, sales and marketing, and program managers) to drive and review tooling development process.
  • Conduct tooling design and review with customer, which includes but not limited to detail plastic & metal tooling DFM, molding defect FA/CA review, and fixture design.
  • Work closely with factory tooling team to bring-up plastic injection molding tools as well as stamping tools into mass production.
  • Investigate new technology and implement new industrial technology into mass production.


  • Collaborate with Product Design, ID, and Mechanical Process Engineering teams to support product development
  • Collaborate with client and internal teams to design and fabricate high quality, precise stamping and injection molding tools.
  • Review FEA of tooling concepts and design through Mold Flow Analysis or similar software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including creating effective report and presentation with collected manufacturing data.
  • Support design and manufacture dimensional and functional jigs / fixtures for parts measurement and tooling validation.
  • Identify technical risks, conduct root cause analysis and make corrective action plan
  • Familiar with the use of Design For Manufacturing and SPC
  • Experience in mechanical design, LSR injection molding, plastic molding, including knowledge of IMD, Double Shot and Insert Molding
  • Experience in production Process Qualification, Measurement and Analysis
  • Experience in tooling design qualification using Mold Flow analysis software or equivalent
  • Experience in development and implementation of innovative tooling concepts used in the mass production of consumer electronic products
  • Experience in managing multiple concurrent projects
  • Experience in full design and development cycle on consumer electronic products
  • 3+ years plastic injection mold design and fabrication experience, prefer experience in high volume, precision injection molding and out of spec issues resolving
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma concept
  • Knowledge and experience in using Pro/ENGINEER, UG NX solid modeling
  • Travel domestically and internationally to support customer and factory teams as projects require
  • Bachelor’s degree, in Mechanical Engineering, industrial technology or equivalent
  • Fluency in Chinese
